If these steps do not help, send an email to ZIM with the following information:
As a rule, everything should be explained on the following page
+
* VO number you received from the student services organisation (if known)
* [[Set up router]]

If there are no instructions for your router, you should make the settings anyway. The most important thing is:

* Set DHCP / Dynamic IP on the WAN port (no PPTP!)

* VPNs to ''padnet.de'' are no longer necessary

If this does not help, please write an e-mail to the IMT with the following information:

* VO number you received from the Studierendenwerk (if known)

* Room number and building

* Inscription on the socket on the wall

Die deutsche Version finden Sie auf der Seite FAQ zum Internetzugang

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about internet access for the halls of residence of the Studierendenwerk.

FAQ[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Can I use Wi-Fi in the hall of residence?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Yes, but you should use your own router for this. More about this here:

It is also possible to plug a terminal device with a cable into the double network socket labeled D. This is only recommended in emergencies, because then the device is directly on the Internet without a firewall, which a router usually offers!

Do I need a VPN?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Since the ZIM has taken over support, a VPN is no longer necessary for Internet access. If you were using a VPN for login.padnet.de, you no longer need one.

Where do I plug in the cable?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

There is a double network socket in your home. If you want to connect a PC or router to the Internet, you must plug the cable into the left-hand socket labeled D. The D stands for data. The left-hand socket labeled T for Telephone is currently not in use. Plug the other side of the cable in the WAN-Port of your router. Typically this port is marked blue.

How many devices can I connect to the Internet?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

You have a network socket in your home. You can connect one device directly to the Internet using a network cable. If you want to connect several devices or use WLAN, you need your own router. Find out more here:

I can only connect one device - I encounter problems when connecting multiple devices[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

You need a full-featured router to connect to the Internet. A Wi-Fi access point is not sufficient. For more information, see:

What should I do if my internet stops working even though it was working just a moment ago?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

  1. Unplug the network cable and plug it back in (at both ports). There may have been a loose connection.

  3. Replace the network cable. You will need at least a CAT5e cable (a higher quality cable is also acceptable).
  4. Connect your laptop directly to the network cable. If you now have an internet connection, the problem lies with your router. For details, see Router einrichten.
  5. Has your router made any automatic changes? If so, check the router configuration. Help is available in the Router einrichten instructions.
